A Million N95 Masks Are Coming From China—on Board the New England Patriots’ Plane

Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker gets an order in with a number of Chinese manufacturers for supply of over a million N95 masks. The hard hit east coast states of the U.S. face a critical shortage of N95 masks for health care workers in hospitals. The problem is getting them shipped from Shenzen, China to to Boston's Logan airport. Someone suggested using the Patriots football team's Boeing 767 jet. Robert Kraft, Patriot's owner agreed and the passenger plane was converted to carry cargo. The Chinese consulate in New York stays open over the weekend to process the flight crew's visas. Approval for landing without the crew being asked to quarantine for 14 days was another hurdle. Chinese authorites agreed to permit the landing for about 3 hours to pick up cargo only, with the flight crew staying on the plane. Data shows preventive measures working, Says Asad Umar

Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said on Wednesday that preventive measures undertaken thus far by the country in its fight against Covid-19 will remain in place for two more weeks from April 1 to April 14. He made the announcement during a joint press conference with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security Dr Moeed Yusuf. "National Coordination Commitee (NCC) in today's meeting decided that the existing preventive measures will remain in place in the entire country for at least two more weeks," revealed Umar. He said that every province already had its own restrictions in place but that based on the NCC meeting, all provinces, besides Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB), had uniformly decided to implement these measures from this point forward. Coronavirus outbreak: Edhi Foundation morgues reopen across Karachi KARACHI: Edhi Foundation morgues across the city reopened on Monday, a day after they were closed owing to the coronavirus scare prevalent in the country and around the globe.  According to an Edhi Foundation spokesperson, the morgues were reopened and Ghusl services were also resumed by the Edhi Homes staffers. The spokesperson said that Ghusl will be given to bodies subject to coronavirus Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The spokesperson further said that the staff at the mortuaries were trained to cope with the coronavirus epidemic and safety precautions against the infection. ECC gives the green signal to Rs1200bn coronavirus relief package ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Monday approved the Rs1200 billion economic relief package as the coronavirus continues to dent business and economic prospects in the country.  The Rs1200bn relief package was announced last week by Prime Minister Imran Khan. The ECC meeting was chaired by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh. The package was given the final shape so it can be presented before the cabinet for approval when it meets tomorrow. According to a notification, a Rs100bn emergency fund has been set up to deal with the impact of the pandemic. It was also agreed to provide 20.2 million people Rs12,000 on a monthly basis for four months via the Ehsaas Kifalat Programme. According to details, the cardiac center in Landhi, Karachi, will now be converted into a quarantine center. This decision came after the special directive of Wasim Akhtar. Punjab cuts work hours of doctors, nurses tending coronavirus patients

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Saturday reduced the working hours of doctors and nurses engaged in the treatment of coronavirus patients across the province to six hours, reported ARY News. “Pursuant to the recommendation of Corona Experts Advisory Group (CEAG), in its meeting held on 25/03/2020, the Competent Authority has been pleased to direct that all the doctors and nurses working in dedicated Corona Hospital/Isolation Wards/HDUs/ICUs for management of Covid-19 patients shall perform duty in 6 hourly shifts,” read a notification issued by the Punjab healthcare department. “These doctors and nurses will perform duty continuously for one week. After one week of duty, they shall be granted two weeks off from duty, either at home or in the hospital facility.
